Hydrophobic molecules tend to be non-polar and therefore more soluble in neutral and non-polar solutions (eg organic solvents). Hydrophobic molecules usually clump together in water, and when water is on the surface of a hydrophobic solution, it forms a droplet with a large contact angle.
